REVIEW - NARS ALL DAY LUMINOUS WEIGHTLESS FOUNDATION

Sunday 8 November 2015

Finding the right foundation for you can be really tough. Over the years, there have been so many I've bought due to blogger hype only to be left disappointed. I've experimented with all different types from cheap to high end, matte to dewy and light to full coverage. When it comes to foundation, it's the one product I'm prepared to pay a bigger price tag for than mascara, lipstick etc as it's the base and staple of my makeup. I've tried some lower end of the scale brands and found some amazing finds but I feel they don't last all day no matter how much primer I wear and don't give my makeup that wow factor.

NARS All Day Weightless Luminous foundation has been on my wishlist for months, thanks to becoming obsessed with beauty vlogger Teni Panosian. Her makeup is always flawless and I loved a look she recreated in one video, with this foundation being her base. After a few months of always hovering over add to basket on ASOS, I went into House of Frasers and was appropriately colour matched.

NARS claim this is a 'full, natural-looking coverage with unexpectedly weightless, 16-hour wear. Highly pigmented and perfectly balanced, this breakthrough formula builds and blends effortlessly with just one drop—the result of exclusive innovation uniquely designed to deliver long-wearing full coverage, weightlessly." It is also oil free, which works great for me as I have an oily T-Zone. In a nutshell, it is what I desire in a foundation. I love high coverage but i hate the cake like feeling that most can bring. As you can imagine, my expectations were high.

I was matched with Medium 1.5 as I do fake tan quite a bit and as you can see from the above swatches, it compliments it very well. It has a watery consistency which I wasn't prepared for but it applied like a dream. On my first time using this, I applied with my fingers and the second time with a brush but i've since found that applying with your fingers and then blending out with a beauty blender is the best way to achieve that truly polished look. My skin looked flawless, it covered all my blemishes and felt so light on my face. Thumbs up so far.

When it comes to lasting power, 16 hours is a big promise for any foundation! I put it to the test when working what was a long day to see if it would stand the test of time. By lunchtime, my skin still looked as I had applied it in the morning but by the time i got home, I could see my t-zone starting to become quite oily which then resulted in this starting to wear off. I didn't top this up, which I would normally do with some translucent powder as the day progressed but I wanted to see if this lived up to the claim. Since though, I have adapted my usual application of powder in the afternoon and since, have noticed that this does make a big difference.

Overall, I love this foundation. I love the coverage, how light it is on my skin and the lasting power. NARS claim it suits all skin types but if your on the oily side, I would definitely recommend topping up with some powder as the day goes on to ensure it looks as flawless. At £32, this is more on the pricey side but I've really enjoyed how my makeup looks since using this. Is it holy grail status? I feel like this is one of the best foundations I've used but I'm not sure if i would give it that title just yet.

Have you tried NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation? If so, what did you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts below or tweet me @whatamydidblog.

    1. Me too but I'm so glad I purchased it. It gives you that extra coverage compared to sheer glow but still had that light feeling on your skin which is amazing. I hate a full coverage foundation which feels heavy on your face x

    1. Thank you :) I can't recommend it enough. It's the only full coverage foundation that I haven't found either too thick or hard to take off x

  4. I'm a massive fan of the Nars sheer glow as I have such dry skin. Everyone says I need to try this one as well as it promises great results on my skin type! It does look as if it's heavier coverage than sheer glow which I'm not sure how I feel as my skin doesn't really take foundation very well but probably would be great for nights out rather than everyday for me! It looks fantastic on you though! xx

    1. It's much heavier than sheer glow I think but if you were looking for a night time foundation with more coverage, then this is great. I'm not sure how it would work with dry skin as I think it's targeted more at oily prone skin but Nars customer service is second to none, I'm sure they'd give you a sample and best advise you :)

  5. I bought it because of my oily t-zone as well, it sounded so promising! I was kind of disappointed at first because I always apply foundation with a brush and it didn't seem to spread out that well. I tried using a damp beauty blender and that worked better, but I also noticed it made the foundation oxidise during the day so it would get a shade darker - not a good look! Since then I have been mixing it in with "regular" foundations like the Rimmel Match Perfection, who aren't as watery and have a dewy finish, but I think it creates something beautiful right in the middle of the two and it doesn't seem to oxidise at all. It's trial and error with this one, really, but I think I've finally found a way to make it work!

    1. Oh no, sorry to hear you were disappointed to begin with. I agree, it takes a while to try and find out which method works for you but once you get there, it's amazing! My t-zone has been clearing up recently which is why I think it's been better but I still top it up with some powder through the day just to make sure that shine doesn't break through. A damp beauty blender and a tiny bit of moisturiser mixed in with it and I feel it's great :) glad you find a way to make it work for you - it's rather pricey, it'd be ashame if you couldn't!

  6. So glad I just discovered your blog, and this post, through Bloglovin' today. Have given you a follow :) I hear so many positive things about this foundation, but something always tells me not to buy it! I'm a full coverage girl, and I think the word 'watery' referring to the formula puts me off slightly, as every other full coverage foundation I own is quite thick in consistency! Lovely post xx

    1. Thank you Laura! Have followed you back :) I was the same, it took me a while to bite the bullet and purchase this but I'm so glad I did. I always used studio fix or double wear in the past so I was a little thrown by the consistency at first but it's so great to have something that makes your skin feel like it can breathe and is weightless :) I'd recommend a sample - Nars staff are normally really helpful so they may be able to provide you one! x
